Weapons and Eternal Guard: Read the Historical-Supernatural Arsenal
A pre-release Valor Mortis guide to the Rapier, Musket, Shield Transmutation, Nephtoglobin weapons, and Eternal Guard encounters.
Last verified · Official
The arsenal in Valor Mortis is not intended to be a museum list of Napoleonic weapons. One More Level says its weapons blend historical-era themes with supernatural fiction and technology enabled by the discovery of Nephtoglobin. The official Demo updates name a Rapier, Musket, and Shield Transmutation, while the main premise puts William against Napoleon’s plague-ridden forces and the named Eternal Guard.
Use this page to understand the confirmed categories and prepare for fights. Weapon stats, ammunition, scaling, and the complete retail arsenal remain unpublished.
Confirmed weapons and powers
| Tool | Confirmed context | What to test |
|---|---|---|
| Rapier | Added to the Demo’s second level and used in the Lighthouse content. | Range, recovery, parry follow-up, and finishers against armoured targets. |
| Musket | Named as a new firearm in the same official Demo update. | Aim time, reload, target-lock behaviour, and whether it interrupts posture. |
| Shield Transmutation | Named as a new transmutation in the Lighthouse level. | Defensive timing, traversal interaction, and resource cost. |
| Historical/supernatural weapons | Developer describes a blend enabled by Nephtoglobin. | Which effects are weapon properties and which belong to William’s powers. |
The test column is deliberately open. A named weapon is confirmed; its role is not fully documented until the game exposes the inputs and numbers.
Read the Eternal Guard as a mobility problem
The official enemy material names Napoleon’s Eternal Guard as a plague-ridden faction, and identifies The Relentless as elite loyalists with greatswords and concealed faces. The developer’s combat update also says mobility is the intended counter to the Guard, alongside improvements to target lock, camera tracking, target prioritisation, and ranged/melee range.
That gives a practical encounter order:
- Keep an exit route open before committing to a melee exchange.
- Separate one Guard from a group with terrain or movement.
- Use a parry or dash to create the opening; do not stand still trading into a greatsword.
- Test the Musket or another ranged option after the target is isolated.
- Finish only after the actual enemy state is visible and confirmed.
This is an interpretation of the official mobility guidance, not a promise that every Guard has the same weakness.
Do not confuse transmutation with a weapon slot
The official language uses transmutation for supernatural powers, including the named Shield Transmutation. It has not published a final menu layout or whether every transmutation shares a resource. Keep a separate note for weapon input, power input, and movement input until the retail interface is available.
Demo preparation
The Demo’s Lighthouse section is the best official place to practise the new named tools. Use it to capture:
- Rapier attack and parry animations;
- Musket aim and reload behaviour;
- Shield Transmutation activation and duration;
- how the camera behaves in multi-enemy fights;
- which encounters reward movement rather than stationary blocking.
Mark every observation as Demo-tested. It is not automatically a launch guarantee.
The retail checklist
At launch, build the actual weapons guide around the following fields:
- weapon name and acquisition point;
- damage type, range, and recovery;
- ammo or resource cost;
- posture, guard, or finisher interaction;
- upgrade material and maximum level;
- matchup notes for Eternal Guard and The Relentless.
Until those values are tested, see Demo weapons and abilities for the playable-build material, enemies and factions for the official enemy taxonomy, and traversal and cast for movement context.
