The free Valor Mortis Demo released on Steam on June 7, 2026, ahead of the full game's October 13 launch. It is a self-contained slice of One More Level's first-person soulslike — the studio behind Ghostrunner — and it is the build every page on this site is tested against. You play a fallen soldier of Napoleon's Grande Armée, dragged back from death and set loose in a 19th-century Eastern Europe warped by dark magic. Napoleon's eastern front becomes a nightmarish, interconnected labyrinth, and the Demo gives you a real feel for its moment-to-moment combat and traversal before you commit to the full release.
Core mechanics you'll learn in the Demo
Combat fuses gunplay with visceral melee. You carry a Rapier for fast, precise strikes and a pistol for ranged punishes, and success leans on reading enemies for the parry and dodge windows every soulslike lives on. The twist is resurrection as a tool: death is not just a fail state but a tactical resource, and dark alchemical powers augment your attacks and open new options in a fight.
